Should I stop throwing completely if I have discomfort?Updated 2 months ago
In general, you should NEVER throw through pain! Although it’s critical to differentiate between normal soreness and actual pain.
Step 1: Use an Extended Warm-Up to Identify Soreness vs. Pain
Before making a decision, go through a progressive, extended warm-up to assess how your arm responds:
Dynamic movement
Any custom prep prescribed by the ArmCare App
Arm & lower body activation
A gradual throwing progression (if applicable) starting with easy throws.
❌ If the discomfort persists or worsens: It is pain, not soreness. Stop throwing immediately and follow the 48-hour rule.
Step 2: Perform a Fresh Exam If Pain Goes Away After Warm-Up
After an extended warm-up, take a Fresh Exam in the ArmCare App.
If the test is pain-free and strength levels are normal, you can ease back into throwing but monitor for any returning discomfort.
If the test is painful or the app shows alerts, then stop throwing and wait 48 hours before retesting or returning to throwing.
When to Get Medical Help?
If pain persists beyond 72 hours, even with proper rest and a second Fresh Exam, throwing should be completely discontinued until further testing or medical evaluation confirms readiness. Continuing to throw through pain significantly increases injury risk.
